What is Scyon?

James Hardie® is proud to introduce a new generation in building products. Ingeniously combining workability and durability with artful simplicity, Scyon® represents a smarter way to build.

New Zealand’s buildings have always valiantly borne the brunt of Mother Nature’s fickle whims. Moisture, wind, temperature, UV levels or seismic activity have always found a way to compromise the integrity of building materials. So, instead of working against these unforgiving forces, James Hardie® have worked with them. Scyon® combines the toughest properties from its raw natural ingredients and harnesses the strength of the elements that would otherwise degrade it. While mother nature made it strong, at James Hardie with science, we have our Scyon range of building products even stronger.

This brand of smarter building goes beyond extreme durability. By using only sustainable natural materials like recycled water and renewable plantation pulp, Scyon® minimises its environmental impact from the moment of manufacture right through to installation.

James Hardie are committed to the sustainable production of building materials for a tougher and greener tomorrow.

When building a house, you will want to ensure that the design and products help restrict greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. This applies not only to the construction process, but also to the building’s entire life cycle. James Hardie aims to conduct business in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner and to use management systems and operating procedures to identify, monitor, control and reduce the impact of our operations and our products on the environment.

We strive to continually improve our manufacturing processes and product formulations to minimise our carbon footprint. As such, we are committed to ecologically sustainable development (ESD) principles. James Hardie is a founding participant in the Commonwealth Governments Greenhouse Challenge to voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions and undertake emission abatement plans. As part of this commitment we measure ourselves against the following criteria:

  • Water and resource conservation
  • Energy consumption and management
  • Use of renewable and recyclable resources as raw materials
  • Avoiding the use of environmentally damaging raw materials
  • Waste minimisation by recycling process materials
  • Pollution reduction e.g. treatment of water before its disposal into public storm water
  • Protection of the natural environment

The programs we’ve put in place to focus on these ESD principles have considerably improved the resource and energy efficiency of our operations and building systems. They will also ensure an ongoing improvement in the environmental performance of our products and services.
