More Than Just A Door

As building or renovating tradespeople are often relied upon to select which doors go into the home it is important for both the homeowner and tradespeople to understand that not all doors are created equal and the quality and performance of the door needs to be considered.

Manufactured in Auckland, Superior Doors create interior doors that are designed and engineered to be of solid structure and meet and exceed the demands of modern, efficient homes. “Most door manufacturers and door suppliers in New Zealand use paper honeycomb door cores. This is 60 year old technology and offers little in terms of impact resistance and almost no acoustic or thermal efficiencies. Even the most basic Superior Door RibCore Polystyrene core door is a dramatic improvement over a traditional paper honeycomb core door. When purchasing a Superior Door, you are ensuring that your home is going to be stronger, warmer and quieter”, says Lucas Davidson Brand Development Manager of Superior Doors.

Superior Doors also use thicker timber so the exterior structure of the door is not flimsy. “The RibCore Polystyrene Core achieves 42% glue adhesion between the core and the door skin. While cheaper, traditional honeycomb paper core doors on the market have only 4% glued contact between the door skin and core. Combined with the thicker timber we use means the door is strong and can easily absorb what life throws at it without popping, bending or bowing”, says Lucas.

Superior Doors also offer tips on maintaining existing internal doors in the home. “When painting your home and you reach the doors don’t skimp on the paint. Ensure you paint the top and bottom of the door as this is where moisture gets in and over time and this can lead to doors warping making them hard to close,” says Lucas.
