Congratulations to Karmandeep (Kerry) Singh who is the first person ever to become qualified with the New Zealand Certificate in Frame and Truss Detailing (Level 4).

When BCITO launched this new qualification early in 2014, Kerry leapt at the chance to get on-board and get qualified.

Having risen through the ranks during his 11 year career at Akarana Timbers in East Tamaki, some of the skill sets required of the qualification were already in practice by Kerry before he enrolled, but going through the process of cementing his knowledge against an industry-approved and NZQA registered list of skill sets, Kerry is now proud to call himself a qualified professional.

“No qualification existed previously so this was an opportunity for me to have everything formalised.  In the industry there is a shortage of skilled detailers so if you can achieve a national qualification you’re highly regarded – there’s a huge market for qualified people.   I worked on a lot of my evidence gathering and assessment material after-hours and I’ve worked really hard.  Today I’m really pleased to be presented with my certificate.  Thanks to my BCITO Training Advisor, Philip Middleton, who helped me immensely along the way.

“I’ve picked up a few things I didn’t know before and I thoroughly recommend enrolling in this qualification to anyone working in frame and truss detailing.   It’s a qualification that not so many people know about and exactly what our industry needs is to create formally qualified detailers,” says Kerry Singh.

It is generally expected that people who enrol in the Frame and Truss Detailing qualification take between two and three years to complete but, with prior on-job experience under his belt, Kerry flew through the required assessments and was able to complete in just 11 months.

This is a significant achievement and BCITO congratulates Kerry on becoming the first ever qualified professional Frame and Truss Detailer in New Zealand.
