District plan change oks denser development in Takapuna

15-Feb-2011
Auckland Council yesterday released a proposed change to residential zoning in central Takapuna on Auckland's North Shore.

The change would allow for a denser mix of development in Anzac Street West precinct. Housing in this area is currently a mix of stand-alone one and two-storey houses, but the council has said it is "well suited for a higher intensity of land use".

The change to Residential Zone 8 would not affect existing homes. However, it would allow new residential types such as terraced housing, apartment buildings up to 6 storeys high and mixed-use buildings to be developed in the area. According to the council, the aim is to allow for the transformation of the area into a "high-quality, urban living environment."
