Acrylic or Tiled Showers, Which is Best?

Acrylic or Tiled Showers, Which is Best?
August 21, 2013

Choosing between an acrylic or a tiled shower is a key decision whether you are designing a new bathroom or upgrading an existing space. The decision will most likely come down to personal preference, available space and budget.

There is no doubt that tiled showers look stunning. They are usually larger and allow creation of an individual space with your choice of tiles, carrying the bathroom tiles through to the shower for a seamless look. And while it is popular to tile the shower floor as well, Athena also offer acrylic trays to use with tiled walls as an alternative.

This set up delivers the aesthetic appeal of tiles with the practical benefits of an acrylic tray, eliminating leakage concerns sometimes associated with poorly installed tile shower systems. The use of an acrylic base can reduce installation costs as tile membrane isn’t required on the floor, and fall for drainage is already built into the tray. The Lifestyle is designed for larger bathrooms with sizes ranging from 1000 to 1800mm. Instead of an expensive custom tiled shower, consider a standard size Lifestyle or Allora Shower and design the remaining space to suit your personal needs.

An acrylic wall shower delivers clean, seamless style in conventional sizes and shapes to suit almost any space. Compared to a tiled shower, the installation time savings make them an attractive option. Because they are pre-made with set installation instructions they are easier to budget.

All Athena showers have an acrylic wall option, most with an inbuilt moulded recess option for practical storage; alternatively select a flat wall with glass shelves for a sleek minimal look.

No matter what style, a properly built, waterproofed and maintained shower will last for years to come so make sure you choose an experienced installer and request a guarantee.
