Try Before you Buy at the Touch of a Magic Button

The new Magic Button app from Rinnai can help you decide whether the gas fireplace you’ve always dreamed of is right for you BEFORE you start knocking holes in walls and running pipework all over the place.

The hot water and home heating brand has developed a free mobile and tablet app to help you visualise how your choice of fireplace would fit in your home

The app allows anyone to overlay the image of a selected fireplace on to any balnk wall or surface in your home, whether it’s your lounge, dining room, bedroom or kitchen, using the camera function on their phones or tablets

The National Marketing Manager of Rinnai Kathryn Geck says the app utilises the most up-to-date mobile technology to allow you to try out new fireplaces virtually, without a financial commitment.

“Our research into the customer decision making process identified the uncertainty homeowners feel when making big purchases for items that will become permanent fixtures in their homes.”

“It’s always been our dream to show homeowners what a fireplace could potentially look like in their own living rooms before they commit to a purchase. Getting a new fireplace can transform the look and feel of a home and it is important to get it right,” says Geck.

Users of the app will be able to swap out the fascia (the outer face of the fireplace), as well as the burn media (the internal wood or stones), and choose between one of several different types of walls to act as a backdrop, or superimpose the image onto their own living room wall.

“You can then choose to share the image you’ve created through Twitter, Facebook or email and get your friends and family’s opinion,” she says.

Geck says the app is user-friendly and just as useful for architects and tradespeople who want to get a better sense of what a certain fireplace might look like in the space.

“With the Magic Fire App, they are able to download the app on their smartphone or iPad from either Google Playstore or Apple iTunes, scan the centre spread of our gas fireplace and home heating catalogue – which they can pick up from a Rinnai stockist or download a copy from the Rinnai website and stick on the wall in their home. The technology will pick up on the centre spread image of the catalogue and launch the app automatically. Users will then be guided on what to do through a series of steps,” says Geck.

How to use the Flame Fire app

1. Print off the cover from the Rinnai Gas Fireplace and Home Heating catalogue.

2. Hang it on the wall at home where you’d like your fire to be.

3. Download the free Rinnai Flame Fire app from Google Play or Apple iTunes AppStore.

4. Follow the instructions on screen to scroll through different fireplace designs and fascia options.

5. Click the ‘Magic Button’ via the wall selection page of the app to launch the ‘Magic View’.

6. Focus your phone’s camera on the posters. After a moment a Rinnai fireplace should appear on screen—magically!

You can even capture the image and share it with your friends.

Some handy tips

• There is a distance limitation with the camera where the image will start to wiggle. It should operate at up to 2-3 metres.

• The lighting in the environment has an impact on how well it works also. You need good lighting.

• You need to make sure the cover of the catalogue is perfectly flat against the wall.
